Harris and Ruble ART takes particular pride in their newest exhibition, "Sites and Scenes of Los Angeles," which is the Los Angeles debut of our own Marcella Ruble, whose sculptures will be on view January 1 - March 31. A reception for the artist will take place Saturday, January 19, from 5 to 8 pm in the gallery's landmark Art Deco Building at 6425 Santa Monica Blvd. in Hollywood.
Sites and Scenes of Los Angeles - On a Clear Day, I, II, III, IV
Clay, Decals and Gold, 2012 9" x 7"x 8" (I), 9" x 7½" x 7" (II), 9" x 9" x 8 ½” (III), 8" x 8" x 5 ½” (IV)
Marcella conceived of the site sculptures in 1997, soon after she settled into her Los Angeles home which has an incredible view. Using lusters fired over matte glazes on her sensual ceramic forms, Marcella created one-of-a-kind trapezoidal box-like sculptures ranging in size from knee-high to less than a foot. They were abstract landscapes - part city, part skyline, part nature, reglecting what she saw from her patio.
Recently Marcella discovered a new digital technology that has allowed her to transfer her series of photographic panoramas of these vistas onto her sculptures, which now serve as "canvases" to reflect her unique viewpoint of Los Angeles.
In addition to the artist's reception on Saturday, January 19th from 5-8 pm, the gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 1-5 pm or by appointment.
